Any good communications jobs in Birmingham other than call centers? IF so tell me please, thinking about moving back up that way soon.

What kind of communications? Advertising? Newspaper? Magazine? Semaphore? Smoke Signals? We need detail, man. You're a communications major, after all.

My bad, I just joined this group today....Broadcast/Journalism...I would be interested in sports or maybe public relations...I interned at NBC 13 for a full year, and afterwards that kind of changed my mind about television. I want to stay close to my major but be available for any new opportunity as well.

Have you tried JournalismJobs.com -- The Job Board for Media Professionals They list by state. Also the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association Web site has a classified section where jobs are listed (Southern Newspaper Publishers Association, I think). Southern Living was hiring...they used journalismjobs.com, but they probably do it through the Time-Warner Web site now. But if you want to move up...go to Atlanta, they're way better connected there. Best way to get a small fortune in journalism? Start with a big one! ![]() Good luck to you! |

See, if I were in your shoes, I would go into advertising and try to be a copywriter. Hie thyself to the Portfolio Center in Atlanta, spend a good year there, and you'll be making really good coin. Don't even being to screw around in journalism. It's a breeding ground for drunks, derelicts, and malcontents. I worked for a newspaper for three years in college, looked around at all the veterans, and found they were miserable people.

I would probably go the PR route. See if Southern Living has an opening or HGTV or the Food Network in Knoxville.

I'd contact Intermark Advertising and Luckie and Company Advertising.

It's worth a shot, but I wouldn't bank on it unless the guy has a really killer book. Both places only take people who've got 2-3 years under their belt. Of course, Intermark might shove him into the automotive division. But you really don't want to start your career out there.

That's because traditional publishing is a dead-end career route.
