Default Is Sylagauga Alabama a good place to live

I am moving to Alabama, I will be renting and need to keep the rent low. A friend has suggested Sylagauga as being a nice place to live, however, I will need to support myself, and only have a clerical, office, customer service background. I have worked in the insurance industry, and have considered applying in Birmingham, but could not commute the 51 miles it would require. Does anyone know if Sylacauga has many clerical type positions available? Any help would be appreciated.

I am moving to Alabama to be near my great nephew, who lives near Harpersville. Sylacauga was suggested by someone. I want to be in somewhat of a rural area, but I do have to work. Thus, my question about clerical opportunities in Sylacauga. It sounds like Sylacauga might be a nice town to live in, but I also have to consider where I will be able to find work.

Just as a pointer - DO NEVER EVER even think about speeding within Harpersville's city limits. It is a famous speed trap:>)

Sylacauga has grown over the last few years. Quite a bit of retail and a new hospital. You should not have any problems finding clerical work. A commute to Birmingham is over an hour one-way. With gas prices still climbing this may not be a solution. Look into Chelsea as well for employment.

Threestep, thank you very much for that information. I will certainly remember your tip about not speeding. I appreciate the information about Chelsea also, I will look there too.

Clerical describes a wide range of work. Have you looked into banking positions?

Actually, I have thought about banking. My experience has been in property & casualty insurance. I am not young, though, and my thought was to stick with something I am familiar with. But I am ready for a change. I have extensive customer service experience, which would fit right in with banking. At this stage of my life, I am not looking to climb the corporate ladder, just to be able to live comfortably and not worry about how I will pay the bills. Banking might be a good option, since I wouldn't have to drive to Birmingham to find one. Are you in banking?

Sylacauga might be ok just to visit, But I have lived in Sylacauga all my life and The city or county does not change & will not change. They do not do anything for any one who is not a big name or known well. The mayor does not care nor do any councilmen, they have actual child perverts on the board and who seems to care? No one evidently cause it takes more then 1 person to be able to get something done here, and nothings ever done..or done correctly..Sylacauga "The Beautiful" WHERE?
The outside of some houses are just pathetic, anyone can clean things up. But who cares in Sylacauga?
This whole town is embarrassing, if it can't be cleaned up by the people in the houses, then the city ought to tear it down or clean it up..Put the prisoners to work, we feed'em...
