MadHaus is on a distinguished road
Default Local MLS

I learned something new this weekend about house listings in the B'ham metro area. If you do a search on various sites, whether local or national, many listings do not appear if you seach by the individual town name instead of by "Birmingham" or by zip code. For example, I looked for several house listings in Vestavia Hills that did not show up when I used city/state name instead of zip code (35243.) However, the text of the listing makes it clear that these houses are in Vestavia, even though their mailing address reads Birmingham and they're listed in the MLS under Birmingham. The real estate agents' reasoning is that potential buyers from out of town won't know Vestavia, Homewood, Hoover (Greystone), etc. but will just look for Birmingham and search the entire metro area. Perhaps, but I'm not so sure. What do you think?

I think RealtySouth.com has a much better web site for searching. Try that one.

And, no, I do not work for that company.

MadHaus...I have lived here virutally all of my life and for some reason, those of us who live in the suburbs, list "Birmingham" on our addresses despite the fact we do not live in the city of Birmingham.

I live in Mountain Brook and if you would check my mailbox, 96% of my mail says Birmingham, Alabama 35223. And there's never a problem in getting it delivered accurately.

I guess its one of those weird local phenomena....
