Cherokee Bend seems like it would be a good place for you to look.

I don't know what your collegiate aspirations are for your 4-year olds....
Every year at graduation, a publication is released with the names of the graduates and their college choices. This year's list included:
1) Alabama
2) Auburn
3) Brown
4) University of California - Berkeley
5) Michigan
6) Dartmouth
7) Texas
8) University of Virginia
9) Bates College
10) Syracuse
11) NYU
12) University of Georgia
13) Georgia Tech
14) Vanderbilt
15) Wake Forest
16) Davidson College
17) College of William and Mary
18) Sewanee
19) Rhodes College
20) Arizona State
21) Oklahoma
22) United States Naval Academy
23) UNC - Chapel Hill
24) University of Colorado - Boulder
25) University of Pennsylvania
I graduated in 1973 and had classmates who went to Harvard, Stanford and UCLA.
Heck of a deal: pay your property taxes and you get this level of education in return - if this is important to you.

I would agree that Mountain Brook has the best schools. There are 46 homes available in Mountain Brook from $450k to $600k. 2 of those have existing pools.
You may also want to check out Vestavia for schools and real estate.

Actually it was a "down year" as there are usually several more in the "Ivy's" in a typical class. Next year's will have more. It is my daughter's class and it is an extraordinarily competitive group.
Unfortunately, she's not one of the competitors........

Bravo! Bravo35223,
Just what Crestline needs, another set of 4 y.o. twins! Bring em On!
Wsajma If you move in here, better expect more children. Its in the water!
We moved from Atlanta around the governors mansion and no way would I raise children in Atlanta. Most of my ATL friends think we were nut moving to Alabama, but I feel sorry for them living in that sess pool of a City.
Mountain Brook's Crestline area is AWSOME for children and raising a family. Home lots are small 50x150, and a definite lack of pools, unless you pony up for one of the untouchable country Clubs. This is not a swim and tennis community, but what Buckhead wish they were, out from under the thumb of mismanaged city of Atlanta and their poor school system.
Property tax is based on 10% of your assesed home value, sucks ! But not as bad as where your comming from. `Police and Fire are rated with highest insurance grade. In Atlanta we were robbed 4 times in 3 years. Police would not show up for hours, the next day on one occasion. M.B. cpos have a reputation for being bad a$$es with the local surrounding towns, but they have not much to do. Its an awsome feeling to NEVER lock your doors but bed time.
Single income dual parent white households make up the majority of the community. Crestline Elementry parents donate 20,000 hours of their time. Very involved parents with what is taught.
The city is not hooked on Federal or State hand outs. The Mayor and City Council keep this a high priority. It is a wealthy community, 8 richest per capita in the United States.
We have not gotten any further than the 1st grade so its just hear say from my neighbors. If you have a somewhat bright child the school will hunt out scholarships for your child. Its a major aspect of the highschool experiance. Your college fund if you are involved with your child.
Land Locked city with a Federal Blue Ribbon school system K-12 excelent equiped police fire with a responsible city government that will insure a good investment in any home you buy. We moved here in oct 1999 and paid $180K My home was assesed $590K last go around with a $3500.00 property tax. Values just steadly creep up year after year. Definitly the time to buy in or give it a good look!
TD.
Sorry for running on, but a gloomy rainy day.

Highlands Day has a great pre-school. It is a private school located in the Cherokee Bend area of Mtn. Brook. It has a small day care, and then classes preK4-8th grade. Preschool there then on to a MB elementary school might be a good option. Highlands has soccer teams for ages preschool and up, and you don't have to be a student there to play.
There is also a montessori school in homewood, I believe, which is supposed to be very good.
There are a fair amount of pools in our neighborhood, and we are considering putting one in, but haven't even priced it yet. The YMCA is very big here, and they have branches, with pools, all over. There is also a reasonable country club around, which is supposed to have really good pool parties for the kids. (I am new here and have never been) It is called Pinecrest. I don't think it is luxurious or anything, but I know some people who are members, and they say its a good place to take the kids, esp in the summer.
We've been here for almost a year, and also moved from FLA, and we really love it. Although the winters are not exactly floridian winters !!
Oh, and the alabama dance theatre I think it is called offers dance classes for kids of all ages. I have a bunch of friends who's kids danced in a huge group recital a week or so ago. And the Alyce Stevens Center (sp??) has a kids program of really fun shows. There is a lot here for kids, and its great because it is alot less crowded and hectic than it was trying to do things in FL.
Good luck !

Hi people, i am a 13 year old girl and i need to know good public schools in or near birmigham. My family may move to England thats why i need to know. the location of the house isnt set yet but it will probably be in Edgbaston or Birmingham. I even need to know which grade i will be in and which section i.e high school, middle school etc. it would be good if the school is co-education because of my 10 year brother (i even need to know the same details for him). Thank you

Hello. We'd love to help you, but I think you wandered onto the wrong Birmingham forum. This is for Birmingham, Alabama, not Birmingham, England.
Best of luck to you, however.

I you want more house for your money, check out the Spain Park High School district, and the Greystone Subdivisions. Greystone Elementary has been excellent for my kids, and I would compare it to many schools on Long Island where I grew up.
