Default Places to jog?

I am moving to Birmingham next week and will be living there for about a month. I would like to find some good places or parks to walk/jog with my dog and maybe even be able to throw a ball for him. I am living in the Hoover area, but don't mind making a drive to a good spot. Anyone have any suggestions?

Along Lakeshore Drive in Homewood, there is a very long, very nice, jogging path that stretches all the way from Green Springs Highway to Mountain Brook. Then you can run along the Mountain Brook Parkway for another 1.5 mile if you're feeling ambitious. It's a great path groomed for runners, and attractive to boot. Plus you'll have the added bonus of running with Samford coeds and Mountain Brook soccer moms.
