I'm doing family research and and having a hard time finding info for both my parents former homes and extended family from Akron, Tuscaloosa and small rural towns nearby. My mom was born in Tuscaloosa and dad in Greensboro. They along with my older siblings lived in a tiny town called Akron. I was born there (in our house)but our family moved to Illinois when I was the baby. I'm trying to find out if we have any relatives still in the areas. Mom's maiden name is Hearren. Daddy's last name is Drew. Any information, suggestions, tips will be appreciated. I do plan to take a road trip to do more research this Summer but it would really help if I knew where to start when I get there.

More recently, Hale County has become the home of the nationally recognized Auburn University Rural Studio, an architectural outreach program founded by architect and artist Samuel Mockbee and D. K. Ruth. It is also the birthplace of Eugene Sawyer, the second African American mayor of Chicago
