Another fun thing in Birmingham - Roller Derby! Tragic City Rollers have bouts just about monthly in season.

I lived in Birmingham almost 7 years. We moved from the Atlanta area and one thing that was shocking was the price of housing. We thought we would get alot more for our money. We had a nice custom built home. The area I lived was off of Hwy 280 close to Chelsea. Of course there are many nice neighborhoods around that area, HIghland Lakes is a gated community and rather expensive. It depends on whether or not you have kids in school and what county you want to live. I lived in Shelby co. but Jefferson Co is a good place to live. Its all about the schools. Jefferson co. generates money from retail tax so the schools benefit from that. The town of Mt. Laurel is another neat place. It is located off of Hwy 41 . It is an upscale area that has its own fire dept. schools, grocery store etc...

Mountain Brook would be my choice.
