OK I think we are finally headed your way...we were in Birmingham over the weekend and checked out some homes in Chapel Hill in Fultondale, anyone have thoughts about this area. They seem to be growing out that way which would be good for up...schools, shopping, living (all thoughts wanted) Thanks

My husband likes the rural part and the fact that we can get more home for the money. I like the new shopping coming to the area and it is North of the city which would mean a little less traffic...

I have to say I concur with the question of why Fultondale? If schools are not a concern and you are not planning on living there long, then I say go for it. However, if schools are a concern, then Fultondale is not an option.
Having been here almost 5 months, I have found the best areas are Mountain Brook, Oak Mountain, Vestavia, Homewood, Trussville. Depending on your budget, you will probably get the better deals in Trussvile.

I will have to do a little more research into the school system, we don't have kids and they most likely will not attend school out there but we would like to know for the resale value when we do try to sell....thanks, did you tell me once before about a hair salon??? In Soho??

No, I believe that was another guy on this board.
I am not really convinced that the resale value will be that great. Based on what I have heard from people that I have been here all there life, if you are in a mediocre school system, it would take someone who just really wants to be in that area. Honestly, I have met very few people that live in that area. I have met people that live in Gardendale but there schools are pretty mediocre also.
For us, we have a 15 month old and when we do buy, it looks like it will be Trussville. Only because you can get more for your money and the schools are better but they are definitely not Mountain Brook, Oak Mtn, or Vestavia BUT they are close based on test scores.

Oh and I am not sure if you considered just renting to begin until you can get a feel for the area. That is what my husband and I did. We live in Crestwood and are just taking B'ham in for a year.
