Traffic in Birmingham Area???
My husband and I are moving to Fultondale from St. Louis and would like to know how the traffic is heading south on I-65.
If I were to work in Hoover, does anyone know how long it would take me in the mornings from Fultondale? THANK YOU!

Bad move. I used to have to drive from Centerpoint to Hoover. That was over ten years ago, and even then I gave up on 65 and tried to go the back routes. 65 through the center of B'ham is probably the worst traffic in the area, with the possible exception of where 65 intersects the 459.

it is pretty heavy traffic, though not as bad if you were headed the other way (live in hoover/pelham, worked in fultondale). it also isn't as bad as 280 from cahaba heights through inverness and on down to greystone and even beyond now.
is there any reason why you are tied to fultondale? i know cost of living is cheaper there than in a lot of the over the mountain communities, but it seems like helena or alabaster would make a lot more sense than fultondale if you were to work in hoover.

The problem with Helena is the recent construction which has not yet been followed by updated infrastructure. The roads are basically overwhelmed.
280 Greystone to Oxmoore was not too bad for me as I arranged my hours. This may be an option for you. Most employers are rather flexible when it comes to that.

Anyplace near Birmingham is bad enough for me. But since you are from a big city, it probably won't bother you. They drive pretty fast though down there..I can tell you that.

On a good day, with regular mid-day traffic, it would only take about 20 minutes,. But I have not idea how long it would be with rush hour. When are you planning to move here?
