Argo???
It's me again, still undecided on where we should buy ...we have found some homes in Argo that are really nice and meet our needs. Does anyone live in Argo and commute to Birmingham daily. I will be working off North Carraway in the medical hospital area??? No children yet but does anyone have thoughts on the schools in Springville?? Thanks guys!

About the only thing I can tell you is that Argo has a cool little drive-in movie theater.

I used to live really close to Argo. I lived in Trussville. Your commute won't be that bad. It slows down for a tiny stretch here or there sometimes on 59, but NOTHING like I-65. With its close proximity to Trussville, I imagine Argo will only get nicer so it should be a good buy. The closest grocery store is probably 5 miles from the Argo exit; it is a nice Publix on Deerfoot in Trussville.

I have found Argo is decently priced with a lot of house for the money. However, the schools are average.
Just curious as to what exactly are you looking for and are you open to just renting a house when you come here?
It seems you have posted about a lot areas that are all over the place.

We are renting now in Vestavia Hills and have looked all over for where we like, we recently had someone introduce us to Argo and were impressed but worried over the commute since I am not interested in a 45 min or more commute each day

Bham 03 any idea how long the typical commute would be...I figured if we lived out there we would do most of our shopping etc in Trussville and may only see Birmingham for work and special occassions...

The commute from Argo to downtown Birmingham (we will say the Civic Center, for example) is about 30 minutes. During rush hour I'd say 35 minutes, maybe 40.
The commute to Trussville's Pinnacle is probably 12-15 minutes depending on the traffic. It is on the extreme edge of Trussville on the opposite end, surrounded by Birmingham City Limits.
U.S. 11 stretches about 8 miles through Trussville.

After living in Springville (St. Clair County) for 6 years and then moving to Jefferson County for schools, I agree with "tamelao", the schools are average. Have three children and everything was okay in St. Clair County if your children did not need "special" programs. At the time we were there, they were lacking in that department. But if you don't have any children yet, it is a great return on your money. The house we bought in 1996, we sold for a large profit in 2000. You could live there until you have children, then move for a better school district??? Bham03 is right, 35 min drive to city. All in all, I think it would be a good move.
