Default Young Marines

I'm curious if any here have experience with this program.

Young Marines

I was an instructor with this program when I was stationed in Okinawa in 97-98.

Basically The Young Marines is a youth education and service program
for boys and girls, ages 8 through completion of high school.
The Young Marines promotes the mental, moral, and physical
development of its members. The program focuses on character
building, leadership, and promotes a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
The Young Marines is the focal point for the U.S. Marine Corps'
youth Drug Demand Reduction efforts. Learn more.

I always thought that this was a great program for kids to get to learn and do some fun stuff. My 9 yo step daughter is really wanting to join. Unfortunately the closest unit is in Hunstville.

Well I'm trying to change that. I'm looking at starting a unit here and I'm curious as to who in the area thinks it would be a good idea.

I welcome all thoughts on it!

Here's the fact sheet on it: http://www.youngmarines.com/al_pages/factsheet_06.pdf
