Relocating to Birmingham Area
Hi,
I am relocating to Birmingham in a couple months and need some help with finding an area to live in. I will be working out of my home so commute is not an issue. I have a wife and a two year old daughter, so good schools are definitely important (or will be in a couple years). We currently live in a swim/tennis community in Roswell, GA, and will be looking for the same in the Bham area. The neighborhood is very important - lots of kids, family oriented. My wife is a stay at home mom who likes to walk and go to parks/lunch/etc with the other moms in our neighborhood.
The usual stuff desired - low crime area, somewhat close to shopping, restaurants, etc. Looking for a house around 250K.
Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks.......Rick

Pretty much anything in the swath along 459 from Trussville to Hoover should work. 250K was towards the lower end in that region until this year. Now? You might be able to find more options.
If you're not commuting (A big important thing, then consider Chelsea down highway 280).

Since commuting is not a problem for you, you have a wide range of good areas to choose from.
Find a good agent and have them start e-mailing you listings from different areas so you can get a pretty good idea of what the Greater Birmingham area has to offer.
Best of luck!

Take a close look at Mt Laurel near Chelsea. It's probably more rural than you're accustomed but is an incredible neighborhood.

Given that you live in a swim/tennis area and like parks etc. I would immediately point you to Liberty Park, but price is an issue there. It's a very nice, newer planned community with lakes, parks, schools and shops. As said before, anything along 459 can work well (Trussville, Vestavia, Hoover). Odd thought, but if you work from home, why not stay where you are......moving closer to family?

I came from almost the same type of area in Georgia except I lived in Cobb County! However, Roswell puts Birmingham people of Crestline, Mountain Brook or Homewood. However, price is a problem in these areas.
I would personally point you too either Trussville or Mt. Laurel due to the schools and price range.
