Default Interior Design field in Birmingham?

My girlfriend and I am relocating to Birmingham and wondering what the Interior Design field is like in Birmingham. She currently works for Ethan Allen in Tampa but would prefer to actually work at a design firm. Any information would be appreciated.

I realize you said that she doesn't want to work for Ethan Allen but they are building a brand new EA Gallery on 150/John Hawkins Pkwy in Hoover near the Riverchase Galleria. They might transfer her there if she doesn't find anything else quickly.

The field was pretty go-go until recently. Things have slowed...a few big companies that were bringing in high-priced executives have merged or moved their HQs away. Some of the architectural firms are beginning to lay off people.
But...you never know. Be sure she applies at the architectural places as well as design firms. Ethan Allen is indeed expanding...that would be a good choice to just get established and get to know folks.
And who you know DOES count in Birmingham...as everywhere.

I have to point out that she has to have a NCDIQ license in order to practice Interior Design in Alabama.
