Default BHHA Member home lost to fire 12/13/08

The Bessemer Historical Homeowners Association, The City of Bessemer as well as the owner are mourning the loss of a landmark that was lost to a fire Saturday. The G.H. Stevenson home owned by Actor Glenn Shadix burned to the ground. Nothing is left and everything was lost. The Stevenson home was one of the oldest occupied homes in the Southside Bessemer Inventory. Built in 1895, it was commonly believed to have been built by G.H. Stevenson, superintendent of the Bessemer Water Works; but one source notes that he bought the property from E. E. Vining in 1904. In any case, like so many others, he lost his house in the Depression.
Attached are a few before and after photos. Please keep Glenn in your prayers as he has lost everything.

By now you all know of the fire at Glenn Shadix's home on Dartmouth Avenue, the former home of Don and Jane Errett. While nothing good comes from a house fire, there is some good news to share. First, Glenn is doing better, and is taking care of business that must be tended to. He learned today that a friend had taken pictures months ago of things inside his house, the various rooms and all. This is going to help tremendously in documenting his belongings.

In addition, in case you have not heard, Glenn wants to rebuild on the property. He likes the neighborhood, and Dartmouth Avenue in particular.
