Seeking suggestions on apt 2/2 preferred for UAB student
I'd appreciate input on apartment options for my daughter. She is a nursing student at UAB and will be in the area for the next few years. I'm hoping to be able to find a nice safe complex for around 800/mo. I would go to a 1,000 but would prefer less. Currently under consideration are the following, in order of preference:
1) Wildridge/Wildforest
2) Oaks at Lakeshore,
3) Abbey at Regents
Requirements are 2 bedrooms, w/d hookups and parking close to units. I'm trying to stay within a quick commute to UAB.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would say that anything between in the Highland Avenue area between the Red Mountain Expressway and up Clairmont Avenue would be pretty safe.

He wants an overpriced apartment in a large, dull, corporate-owned complex with no personality, built by the lowest bidder so that his daughter can hear her neighbors through the wall when they pee. On the upside, all of those complexes he mentioned will have their resident dealers, so she'll be able to score weed.

If she is going to be here a couple of years, why not buy? You can find a nice place for that amount, and then in a few years, sell it. Interent rates are VERY low and housing is the cheapest it has been in a Loooong time.

Well, that's a little harsh. Maybe she wants a pool.

Yeah, but you have to drive there. Mind you, those complexes were never for me and--to be frank--are more dangerous than most Southside apartments. But they do have amenities. In short, what we want isn't necessarily what others want. And you and I aren't the final arbiters of taste.

That was my point exactly. He won't be interested in the area you suggested, because none of that is prefab enough.
