Pell City vs Leeds (Birmingham, Hoover: apartment complex, rentals, hotel)

We have it narrowed down to Leeds or Pell City. Which has the best school system? Which is more accessible to commute to Talladega? Which is closest to the essentials SuperTarget, Costco and a quality grocery store?

Also, we are looking to rent before we buy. How do you find rentals in these areas? There is practically no information on-line.

Pell City is more of a small town, Leeds is more like a suburb of Bham. Either way, (a few years ago) you will have to travel to either Trussville or Hoover for a target. the only costco I know is in Hoover...but both of those can be checked out on the company websites..

I can't tell you much about Leeds or Pell City schools.. if you are looking for an apartment- you might want to specify birmingham, then zoom in on Leeds..as far as Pell City goes- you may want to contact a realtor. I doubt there are apartment listing services there (smaller town)

I have many relatives in the Leeds area. Some of them told me last week that there are plans for a Target and several other big retailers in Moody, which is adjacant to Leeds.

There is a good apartment complex in Moody, like a previous poster said, it is adjacet to Leeds. I'm 99% sure it was called the Oaks of St. Clair, they were brand new in 2002 when we lived there.

Pell City is closer to Talladega than Leeds. Leeds is in suburban Birmingham.

Frankly, based on an article in the Birmingham News this morning, I'd take Leeds now...

First, yes the commute is longer, but remember you are Commuting OUT, when everyone else is Commuting IN and vice versa. I know more and more people all over the country, who if they have a job outside the city, tend to live close to the city, and go against the traffic.

Now, to the article. Leeds is getting ready to explode with growth. One of the premier auto racing facilities in the nation is there. Bass Pro Shops is getting ready to put in a big store and greenbelt development around it that will be nationally certified by the Audubon Society. USX is getting ready to put 1000 homes in Leeds...big hotel to serve the racetrack and surrounding area.

Leeds started their own school system recently and with this funding, they are committed to quality. And in Leeds, you will be close to all of the shopping you could ever want, because you are about 3 miles outside the I-459 Beltway....

Wow! Thank you for the inside information. That really makes a difference. I think it is a good point about commuting out. Meaning going against the traffic. We are really being driven by the school system!

Leeds is a GREAT place to raise kids. School system is very good and committed to improving. They are bulding a new middle and high school....state of the art. Hope this helps.

I think that both cities will be good. Leeds is about to get ready to grow rapidly with the proposed Grand River development, which is going to be on a couple of square miles! It will consist of an outlet center. Pell City is also a good city because it is growing rapidly also. There is a Wal-Mart and new Home-Depot! There will be more retail in the future!
