Can anyone please tell me about the Smithfield area. I think it's area code 35204 1 mile or so from Birmingham Southern College. I'm looking to buy a house and I don't have the funds to live in places like Hoover but I don't want the worst either. Also, what do you all think about Eastlake?

East Lake and the area around BSC are not great areas. I don't know that I would recommend looking in either place for a house if you're not already familiar with the neighborhood.

If you are interested in living near BSC ,you would be better off in College Hills, Bush Hills areas than Smthfield. Inglenook should not be an option.

I would avoid the whole area around Birminhgam-Southern- it's a great school (mostly white) in a mostly black neighborhood in and around Arkadelphia Road, not an outstanding area and near the stadium to boot- if it were not for the presence of BSC I wouldn't give you two cents for the area
