I don't think Jillian's does food. It's more akin to a bar whereas D&B really is Chuck E Cheese for adults.

I see your points. We disagree on them, but your experience might be different than mine. I stand by my original thought that it wouldn't work here. Sure, at first, it would be so crowded you couldn't get close to it. But, given time and any shake up in the local economy, it would fail. It's not going to be a place that will work here because it's too expensive to do very often for the incomes here. Furthermore, it would have to be managed very well to avoid becoming a "hang-out" for undesirables, and thus running off paying customers. Read into that last comment whatever you want to, but it's true. We are still a very, very segregated part of the world, though we attempt to conceal it.

I've only eaten there once at the one in Nashville and I was surprised at how good it was. I really wasn't expecting much more then you'd find at the typical bowling alley, but it was much better and the food much more diverse then I'd imagined.

I went to Dave and Buster when I lived in CA. I really like Dave and Buster. I think Huntsville and Birmingham should have one. Many people from different states move to Huntsville because of military, government, and jobs.

I think a Dave & Buster's certainly has the potential to work in Birmingham.

Birmingham's metro is approximately 1.2 million. Dave & Buster's has locations in:

Omaha, NE (~800k)
Tulsa, OK (~900k)
Buffalo, NY (~1 mil)
Richmond, VA (~1.2 mil)
Jacksonville, FL (~1.3 mil)

Birmingham certainly has the population to support a Dave & Buster's. And if Birmingham can finance the numerous fine dining establishments in the city, people here definitely have the disposable income to spend at a Dave & Buster's.

That being said, I've never been to a Dave & Busters (I went to a Jillians once a while ago), so I can't accurately comment on how it would fit into Birmingham. There are other concerns besides Birmingham's population and disposable income that would need to be taken into account.

I love Dave and Buster. Ive been wanting one here in Birmingham for year. The 280 location would be great or The old Macy's spot in the Galleria would be Perfect or the Old Belk building in Roebuck. Lets get a'lot of people to make this happen

I just don`t understand the Dave and Buster criteria ??? What gives I`m sure that all of Alabama`s major four could support a Dave and Busters ! All four have high end,up scale, and very pricy restaraunts that are doing well.So what is up with the criteria and I`m even more shocked that New Orleans doesn`t have one.

I just believe that if a city atleast have a Ruth`s Chris then surely they can support a D&B or Jillians.

Birmingham has some areas that meet or exceed the requirements for a Dave & Buster's. Here are some:

Market Requirements
Super-regional draw
  • 1,000,000 SF retail (1/4 mile)
  • 100,000 daytime population (3 miles)
  • 500,000 population (10 miles)
The Summit and Riverchase areas exceed the these requirements. Both The Summit and the Galleria both exceed 1,000,000 SF of retail space alone. With many offices, residencies, and schools(colleges) around, I am sure the daytime population is met. I have no doubt that the 10 mile population isn't at least 500,000. I don't have any numbers at this point, but I am certain that we meet the requirements. Anyway, contact D&B and mention Birmingham!!

That's why Ash's suggestion that Bham doesn't have the demographics to support a Dave and Buster's is absurd. We support a Saks 5th Avenue for heavens sake but we can't support a Dave and Busters??? There are a dozen popular successful restaurants in the Bham area more expensive than D&B. Heck, Birmingham was 1 of the very few metro areas in the entire country without a pro sports franchise that had the buying power to support an NFL, NBA, and NHL pro franchise. MLB was the only league the area couldn't support according to the study I saw. I don't know where the idea that Dave & Busters requires a very high income area comes from. If you live in an area that can support a Whole Foods Market, you can easily support a Dave & Busters.

I heard a while back when they were building the Pinacle in Trussville that a Dave and Busters were in the plans but something happened.
