Moving to the southside of B'HAM
Moving to birmingham soon, I was looking into the south side of BHAM around UAB, I am 30 years of age and single. I was wondering how is that area? I am not employed yet, I see that the unemployment rate is low hopefully it does not take long to land a job. I am from NYC, I know it will be a culture shock. I will be going to school. I am a bit nervous, I never moved out of the big apple. Is it again safe on the southside of BHAM, and what areas are bad ideas to go to.
thanks

Im from NY also (Buffalo actually) and I moved here about 3 yrs ago and it was definitely a culture shock. Everyone tells you that it is slow down here, but you dont actually realized how slow it is until you experience it yourself. Being from NYC I know your used to the transit system but here in bham it is really hard to get around so please if you dont have NYS license please get it. I hope you at least know how to drive well enough to pass the road test because if you don't there is NOT ONE!!!!! driving school down here in the state period. There is no mix of cultures either. Everyone pretty much sticks with their own kind - and for me that was really frustating coming from NY. Staying on the Southside I think will be good for you moving here because you will meet alot of diverse people and there's alot of clubs, bars and restaurants. UAB is a good school also.

Anyone turned 30 without having a license?
http://www.dmv.org/al-alabama/apply-license.php
30 days to transfer valid license/tags to AL, new license includes driving test.
