I have sold a few homes in the Chelsea area and everyone that has bought there absolutely loves it. Chelsea Park, and The Narrows as mentioned earlier seem to be favorites. The traffic in Chelsea is not bad at all. It is the traffic on Hwy 280 going towards Birmingham that is terrible.
I personally live in Pelham and like it. Although traffic has become a problem.

I have lived in chelsea all my life. My great grand parents owned thousands of acres in the area. If what you are looking for is country living this is not what chelsea is any more. Unfortunately, certain political leaders have commercialized our beautiful city. On the plus side, the schools are great. It's close to everything, but highway 280 is a monster at most anytime. Good Luck!

How many miles is the commute from Chelsea to Downtown Birmingham? Do most of these new developments have swimming pools? What type of homeowners association fees do people have to pay in these communities? Thanks in advance.

During rush hour you cannot meassure in miles but time. I know of none without pool. I have seen annual fees up to 1k+.

I can take a commute. My Houston commute right now is 45 - 80 minutes.
What would a commute from Chelsea to downtown Birmingham be? Also, what do you think the mileage is? Oftentimes, I will not be commuting during peak travel times. Thanks again...

Chelsea, Alabama
I live in Southern California, but I've spent lots of time in Chelsea.
I plan to move to the Southeast when I retire and Chelsea is high on my
list. The area is verdant and clean. The people that I met were polite
and friendly. I didn't see signs of gang activity. I felt safe and comfortable
in the community. The air is clean. Two lane roads take you into gently
rolling countryside where woodlands meet grassy fields.
The Summit, a major shopping center, is about 20 minutes away. However,
280 can be a solid wall of cars both ways. Once, while exiting the Summit,
I had to wait 20 minutesto get down the hill onto 280. I recommend you learn the 'pig trails'. Just ask the locals. The good news that you can
buy groceries in Chelsea. There are a few fast food restaurants and
one or two sit-down restaurants. Last time I visited Chelsea was in
2005.
Chelsea retains a small town feel. However, developers are leveling the
woodlands and fields and building homes. I don't know if officials have
set limits on development.
I recommend Chelsea.
