Is there a specialty grocery store that caters to the gourmet enthusiast. Whole Foods is geared more towards the organic and Fresh Market is not really what I am thinking of. Any ideas? Texas has something called Central Market which has fresh everything....seafood, vegetables, bakery items, meat etc.

I didnt see one when i visited last weekend and i started freak out. I love to cook and wouldnt know where to get hard to find specialty/gourmet items. Thanks.

The closest thing we have like that is probably a Publix. Downtown Bham does had a Pepper's Place Farmers Market in the summer, but they do not have meat, fish, etc.

I was going to suggest Tria, but heard they closed recently ?

I would think that if there were specific items you wanted, that Publix or Whole Foods either could order them for you.

There is Mr. P's up in Bluff Park for fresh meats & sausages. I don't know if they have other gourmet items, but it is a nice Saturday drive up old Shades Crest Road to check them out.

My daughter goes to V. Richards all the time for meats and lunch meats, she says the quality is excellent and you can get just how much you need from meat counter vs. having to buy more than you need when prepackaged.
