New 78 freeway
I haven't been through Birmingham in a while, and will be travelling through soon to Memphis. Where does the 78 freeway now begin? From looking at MapQuest it looks like it ends at Cherry Avenue, with an exit numbered "91" there. Is this part completed, and is this actually where you get on the freeway?

That is correct. You get off 65 and follow Daniel Payne Drive west until you get to Cherry Avenue. Take a right, and follow the two-lane road about two miles. That's where you get on.
The interstate is due to link up sometime in November, 2010. Good luck!

Great, that's going to save me a lot of time. When we first started driving that way, we had to go the back way down the old 78 through all those little towns (Winn and Gu-Win always cracked me up). |

Wow. I remember that. It was a horrible drive, which is why nobody in Birmingham ever travelled much to Memphis. |
