Great places to live in Birmingham
Hello, my husband, our little girl and I are moving to Birmingham soon and my husband will be attending UAB. We are looking for a nice, safe place to live that is within a 15 minute drive to campus. Our price range is around 500-750. I've heard Homewood is a good place to live and I would love any other suggestions. Thanks!

Are you wanting a house or an apartment?
How many bedrooms do you need?
What age is your daughter? Will you have her in public school?

Vestavia, Hoover, or Homewood.

Thanks for the suggestions. Our little girl is not quite 2 so school won't be an issue while we are in Alabama. We are looking to rent a two or three bedroom apartment or possibly a house.

A little further south past Hoover is Pelham- might be a little cheaper, and you might even find a newer rental SF home as well- Vestavia might be a little pricey, but there are a few older but still nice complexes within Vestavia Hills

pvjd is correct in suggesting the three cities he suggested. You might find an apartment or townhouse in those areas in your range, but likely not a house. But since schools are not going to be an issue for you, I would also consider Crestwood, which is in the city limits of Birmingham but very convenient to UAB. Lots of medical residents and other UAB folks live there. In Crestwood, look for a rental house, and not an apartment.

Well, if schools are not a consideration, I would really take a look at the Forest Park section of Southside, particularly east of the Red Mountain Expressway. It's safe, five minutes from campus, and lots of parks are nearby.

Homewood is a very good place to live. BUT it is very popylar and very pricy as far as buying a house. The location is sort of pretigous so the prices are high. A small simple home could easily set you back over $350.00. Location Location is what cost you there. But it is very nice.
