Default How is traffic on 59?

I may be driving from the mountain brook/irondale area to medical park dr for work and google map suggest taking 59. my hours would be 9-6 or 8-5. I know 459 on that side isn't a bad commute but I know nothing about 59. Thanks!

Mary

I wouldn't go through downtown, particularly if you're going to be living near the Summit. St. Vincent's East is only a hop and a skip from the 459/59 interchange. So while the mileage is a little greater, you will have 1-2 traffic lights on your entire commute and zero congestion. Going through downtown Birmingham at those times of day won't be bad, but won't be ideal, either. So 459 is still the way to go. Just trust me on this.

Default Thanks!

It's about 15 min from the summit, pretty much in irondale. I was thinking 459 would be best too. :-)

If you can avoid i-59 during rush hour do so, it seems that where you live a jump to i-459 in trussville would be the ticket. I can say that traffic is hell both ways on i-59 between 6:30am and 9:00am. Guaranteed accidents on malfunction junction (i-65 on ramp to i-59, which crosses the 17th street exit).
