Where people are from and what color they are is not a big issue in most neighborhoods. Try not to impose your way of living, your ideas upon Alabamians and you may find them to be an amicable bunch despite of fried chicken, grits and Sunday services. Live and let live has worked for us.

It sounds to me that you are the one who is profiling:>( Rest assured - even Mountainbrook is not populated by degree flying geeks only. It is a good mix. The per capita dollar signs are changing. A number of financial blood baths took place during the last year.

No kidding. We know any number of trust fund babies who thought they could live forever off Daddy's Regions stock. Exhibit A on why one should always work for a living, you know?

Threestep, if you think I am "profiling" then you are from the South, and haven't experienced the radical prejudice that some Southerners have towards Yankees still. You must be aware it exists?

Usually it depends on the Yankee-in-question's attitude when they get here.

This is not 100% true. Like I said in the above post, for the most part, being a NYer in Alabama has not been a problem for me at all, yet, I was selling a home (Seller's Agent) when a buyer who saw the home several times and had made an offer on it. They asked their agent if they could meet with my Clients -- The home was on several acres and my seller was only offering the home and one acre. The buyers wanted to meet with my Clients to walk the land and see what it would take to get some more land. Up until this time, the buyers had never met me. We agreed to meet, I introduced myself and never said another word to the buyer's wife. In fact, the wife, my Client's wife and the Buyer's agent went into the home, and the seller's husband, buyer's husband and I went to walk the land, I never saw the wife again. Later that night, I got a call from the buyer's agent telling me they pulled the offer. I was told, that as soon as I opened my mouth and the buyer's wife heard my Yankee accent, she told her agent she would not buy a home from a Yankee. Something like this has happened once before in my career. What a shame to give up a home you like so much, do to narrow thinking! Add to that fact, the buyers would never have had to deal with me, it would have been their agent.

Unfortunately they think miracles can happen but I cannot help. Even Doyle is back in banking.

As we all know, southerners never experience prejudice when they leave the south.

I wonder who hates ex-New Yorkers more: southerners, or Southern Californians?

Nothing like being stuck in this in LA behind some dude with an I Love NY sticker on his car..

or at an Angels-yankees game in Anaheim with 70% of the people rooting for the yankees

There isn't really a particular part of Birmingham that is inhabited by Northern transplants. They move here, work, go to school, live, breed, and assimilate. I'm not sure what kind of answer you are seeking, but that is pretty much how it is in most cities...
