Default roebuck/centerpoint area

What thoughts does anybody have about the roebuck/centerpoint area north of the city, as far as affordability, schools, neighborhoods, schools, etc?

I lived in the Roebuck Springs historic district from '96-'03. I loved that little neighborhood and the great friends I made there. But the Roebuck/Centerpoint area has not aged well. The affordability is there, definitely. Roebuck is in the city of Birmingham, so you have B'ham schools (Huffman High). Center Point is its own city now, but has Jefferson County schools (Erwin High, and maybe some parts go to Hewitt or Clay-Chalkville?). I would steer clear of Huffman High and the Erwin school zone.

Well, it's decidedly blue-collar and working-class, so draw your own conclusions. If you need to be in that part of town, you might be better served in Trussville. Just my two cents.

Sorry, stay far away from that area!! It used to be really nice, but now has been taken over by drug abusers and pushers...Gang members, etc... that is the reason I sold my home I adored in that area... I kept getting broken into.. I was a single mother with 3 kids and 1 granddaughter living with me... research the areas before jumping in there...
I worked in real estate for a bit... the best way to find out about a lot of neighborhoods is to wait until the weekend and drive around after dark... if you are uncomfortable with the people hanging out... the it probably is not a good idea to try to live there

yeah I am seeing that the neighborhoods look like they were nice at one time by the amount of landscaping etc around the houses, but a LOT are looking very worn and not maintained. I even saw one house where the roof edge has rotted away back about three feet it looks like, you can see strasight into the inside, and there is a huge blue tarp on the entire back roof, alone with at least 6 or 7 junk cars, an old beat up dump truck and backhoe in the front yard. And I am learning a lot of them are now section 8 housing which usually do not stay very well maintained either. Its sad because these neighborhoods most likely were lived in by folks whoi cared about their home and took care of it. I just do NOT understand.

I have noticed a steady decline in those areas over the past decade or so. When I moved back to the B'ham area last year, a friend who works with the sheriff's dept recommended I avoid that area b/c of escalating crime.
