Default What will happen to Birmingham now since the Occupational Tax was deemed unconstitutional

What will be the fate of JeffCo now if they ruled against the tax?

They'll figure something out eventually. A new legislative session bought JeffCo some time. Most likely a property tax increase, which really won't hurt that badly given how our property taxes are among the nation's lowest.

I don't think anything's decided against the recently passed tax yet.
But property taxes would be a great way to make up the income. If a choice between the 2 were on the table I'd definitely go for the property taxes.

I think they need to declare bankruptcy, but with Smoot running for a congressional seat, it's doesn't look good in the campaign to say she and her cronies ran the county into the ground.

How many of those commissioners do you think keep their seats? Most of them, I think. So the mess will continue.
