Robert White, operator of the Anchor Club bingo hall in Bessemer, says he'll find another recipient for $2,000 of pet food he was not allowed to give to the Bessemer animal shelter. (Special to The Birmingham News)

The mayor tried to get bingo halls shut down and it did not work because they give to charitable organizations(like animal shelters). When this bingo hall tried to give the food the mayor rejected it because he has a personal vendetta against the bingo halls and thier propietors.

About time for the animal rights activist to cry out under these circumstances. Who cares where/why these people got the money, they are trying to help...........???

Maybe the mayor should volunteer a weekend at an animal shelter in the clinic, where they take in the abused and unwanted animals and decide who is adoptable, and who has to be put down. When I worked at the Birmingham Humane Society there were some weeks where we were having to put down 60-80 animals due to space and lack of resources/funding (i.e. food, among other things). What a jerk.

This is slot machine bingo ("electronic charity bingo operation" = not bingo) - and its legality was in question a/o the OP - it has since been ruled illegal Statewide.
