Default Suggestions for apartment complexes near UAB

Hello. We are moving to Birmingham for my husband to go to grad school. We have a two year old so schools are not an issue but we want somewhere safe and close to school. We've been thinking about Southside and Homewood and would welcome any suggestions for good apartment complexes. We are looking to rent a two bedroom apartment between $550-$650. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion. Does anyone know if Mountain Woods apartments in Homewood is a good place to live? It's at 1000 Beacon Parkway. Is this a good area? Is it a good place to live with small children? Thanks for any input.

I'd steer away from the Valley Avenue, Beacon Crest area. Lots of singles, but dodgy in places. You're better off on Southside near the Highlands Golf Course, or in the Mountain Brook apartments across from the Botanical Gardens.

Agree with cpg. Valley has a VERY shady reputation. I lived in a house on Highland Road in Homewood that parallels Valley, and we would hear police sirens at least three times a week.

Thanks for the good advice. Does anyone know the reputation of Vestavia Park Apartments in Vestavia Hills?
