Decent hotels/motels to stay a few days
I'm going to visit Birmingham and outskirts (like Mountain-Brook). Can anyone suggest a hotel/motel in a good location (where one can take a walk at night to get something to eat, etc.)?
The places in town seem a bit pricey? And I think at night the streets of downtown get a little deserted.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

These are pricy, but give you the convenience and walkability you want.
The Wynfrey, which is attached to the Galeria mall.
The new Aloft (by W) hotel in the Soho development in Homewood -- right in the midst of downtown Homewood, but I don't know how much activity there is in those shops after 5pm.

There are some places around Soho that have things open after 5. I know some people love to go to Jackson's and eat and drink after work.

Thank you again - I stayed at a decent enough place
I ended up in the Comfort Inn - Airport - Which is really not near the airport.
Anyway, it was nicely located near some malls that I walked to, and plenty of places to eat.
The hotel was nice enough - And the people that worked there were great.
Overall, I found the people of Birmingham to be nice. It was a good long weekend.

I need help finding a decent area to stay in for a few weeks at a time while on a job - the job is near Midfield, Fairfield and Wenonah the best I can tell - I don't know a thing about the area and don't want to end up in a bad place - any help would be appreciated.

Wenonah itself isn't near an interstate, so no hotels there, and you wouldn't want to stay there, anyway. And I would steer clear of anyplace in/near Midfield and Fairfield.
There are several hotels at the Lakehore exit off I-65. From there it is a straight shot (the back way) to Wenonah, and you could also get to Midfield/Fairfield. I'm sure some of them have weekly rates.
