Fun and safe small town in Alabama
I am looking for a small safe southern town that has alot of activities, and affordable. I am a single mom that has a five year old daughter. I would like to be able to go to dances and festivals and maybe even meet someone. I am 37 so alot of retiree's or a college town will not work either.....Please help with any info. I need to get out of Detroit.

We need more info to help you.
Will you be renting or buying and whats your budget for that?
What part of Birmingham will you be working in?
What type of commute are you willing to do to and from work?

Sorry. I will be renting or rent w/ option. No apartments. My budget will be around 900.00/month and I am willing to commute 40 miles round trip. I have not yet found employment. I do have a small business that I work from home that will hold me over in the meantime.

Try Anniston, Pell City (or even Talladega) and Leeds. They're all East of B'ham, toward Atlanta along the I-20 "Corridor".

I'm not originally from Alabama either...moved here 10 years ago with my three kids..and have to say that I love it. Although I live in Birmingham now, I loved living in Trussville when the kids were little..exactly the things you mention - activities, festivals, etc. Sports activities tend to dominate life here in Alabama ..football, baseball, cheerleading, etc. Trussville's grown alot - so if that seems too big you may want to try looking at Springville, Oneonta, Sylacauga. I was recently in Halleyville which is northwest of Birmingham - it was charming. I think you'll find what you are looking for in almost any part of the state....but for job and dating opportunities I'd probably suggest a suburb or small town near a larger population. Good luck....

Check out Oxford. Hour from birmingham hour and a half from Atlanta right off of I20. Great schools and the city makes sure they have all the money they need to get even better. You can find a nice three bedroom home for 900. The population is smallish but it is the retail/resturant hub of the area (including Anniston) which provides large city coffers. DO NOT MOVE TO ANNISTON UNLESS YOU CAN AFFORD PRIVATE SCHOOL.
