Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Bacharach May Be 91 On Sunday, But He Must Do All Of Us A Favor

Like many of you, I've been a fan of Burt Bacharach and his music. The legendary composer will be 91 years of age this coming Sunday. And can you believe he's still touring? Yep. California soon, Germany and The Netherlands later.

He's still kicking it and just not stopping. Songwriting is still his big thing, and he continues to cook up new tunes to add to his already-huge collection. What is it, upwards of a thousand songs? What else can a guy do...

The Single Tom: The New Phenomenon In Marching Band

Posted 05-09-2019 at 06:54 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Chances are, in the last year, some of you out there who follow marching band may have noticed something subtle sneaking on to the percussion scene. Usually, in a drumline, the battery historically has included snare drums, triple or quadruple-rack tenor drums, and bass drums.

So what changed?

Something has been added, and in North Texas, I've noticed a scant few schools employing this new implementation. And you'll find this in schools...

Case Just Might Stop At ____ Next

Posted 05-09-2019 at 06:08 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Your roving blog reporter is about to take some more time off from work this next week. It's way past time to try some new things, and Case will be on his way to do them.

Besides making return visits to a few favorites, I'll be stopping by a new Bubba's Cooks Country location, opening up in Frisco, Texas. My first visit there could be for breakfast, but I definitely want to try their dinner choices. It's the second location for the Dallas/Park Cities institution....

Sometimes, Relief Comes Sooner Than You Think

Posted 05-06-2019 at 03:55 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Good things can still come to those who wait. But there are times when some good things can arrive for those who don't wait too long. This was one of those years where I didn't have to wait very long at all....

.... for my tax refund.

It wasn't just how much I got back (and, no, I won't reveal how much), but when I got my refund. The month was still April on my calendar. Admittedly, this may be a first. Usually, it'd be May or sometime...

I-69 Update: TXDOT Has An Improved I-69 Website

Posted 05-02-2019 at 07:40 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

A few days ago in Scattershooting, I alluded to a website that hadn't been keeping up much in recent months. I referred to the I-69 Texas Alliance website, but there is another website about the Texas portion of Interstate 69 that one of the Alliance members pointed me out to via e-mail. Oh, yes, I've known about that other site for years, and that one was even worse than the Alliance site in content upkeep.

Until now.
