Test drove one last weekend and it definitely has more torque than the last E90 design with the standard inline 6. However, the drone at idle is annoying!!! It sounds pingy like a diesel and has a higher pitch squeal when you accelerate. It really doesn't have that much more toe room in the rear than the last 328, just a wider & longer bench that's more angled back. The navi looks the same with the same clunky interface. I honestly wished automakers just provided a blank touchscreen LCD with input so ppl could just hookup their smartphones or iPad's and use them instead.
Hyundai/Kia are getting 22/34MPG with their 274HP and 269LB-FT in their 2.0T. Cost about $10-15k cheaper too, which buys LOTS of gas.

BMW also has a habit of substantially underrating their engines; count on it really putting out somewhere in order of 260-270HP. What's more, Hyundai achieves its fuel economy ratings (or do they? -- it appears to be an open question) with tall gearing that takes away some of the engine's erstwhile pep. BMW found a way to achieve fuel economy without sapping the engine's pep, and you can bet it will smoke a Sonata/Optima turbo.

Yeah, it's called an 8-speed transmission. All those extra gears lets them keep the aggressive gearing for acceleration in the first few gears of the trans and keep a more aggressive rear ratio while still having very tall overdrives to keep everything quiet at cruising speed without the car feeling like it falls flat on its face when it shifts into the final gear.
