IF YOU LEAVE A PET OR A CHILD IN A PARKED CAR HERE, YOU ARE GOING TO JAIL. NO EXCUSES, NO CONVERSATION, YOU ARE GOING TO JAIL. THE SAME PLACE THIS MORON MOTHER SHOULD BE. So ya wanna know just how serious it is here? Here's a Sheriffs deputy that left 2 dogs in his patrol car and he is now on vacation down at Three Rivers Prison living in a tent. He can leave in a year but he'll never work the good side of the law again.

Leave an unattended child for even a few seconds gets you behind bars. What this moron did to her child is her fault, not the auto maker. Mom needs to spend some time in jail to think about how stupid she is and hopefully never have any more children. Here, they would have already taken ANY OTHER children away from her. But Kalifornia.....who knows as common sense apparently is rare there.

Wow, judge, jury, and executioner with only knowing limited facts, or circumstances surrounding the case. Also, to design a vehicle that can lock passengers inside in case of emergency is asinine, and if Toyota is held responsible for acceleration deaths then BMW should in this case. If we as a society don't have laws governing this we should. Thank goodness you're in your socialist state that uses tax payer dollars to subsidize corporations and not able to participate in this case.

The Greeks had a building code that if somebody died in your construction the builder was put to death.

I realize TX is a bit backwards, but even they wouldn't ticket people for this unless very specific circumstances are met. LOL, jail my ass. Btw, the girl in this story was 14 and the mother wasn't there or involved.

Sec. 22.10. LEAVING A CHILD IN A VEHICLE. (a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly leaves a child in a motor vehicle for longer than five minutes, knowing that the child is:
(1) younger than seven years of age; and
(2) not attended by an individual in the vehicle who is 14 years of age or older.
(b) An offense under this section is a Class C misdemeanor.

According to your link the deputy was indicted because his actions led to the death of 2 police dogs - not because the dogs were left in the car.

The mom wasn't driving and wasn't even there. The brother left the sister in the car so she could get some sleep before class. He naturally locked the car to prevent theft. No reasonable person thinks a car can't be unlocked from the inside if it is locked from the outside.

Since you still did not read, I'll use few simple words.
1. Mom was not driver
2. Teenage brother was driver
3. Teenage sister was sleeping when they arrived at school
4. Teenage sister's class was an hour later so her teenage brother let her sleep and locked the doors for her protection.
5. On a normal vehicle, a teenager locked inside can easily unlock the door to exit the car.
6. This car's design prevented unlocking doors if locked from the outside
7. This being an older used car, it did not have the owners manual and so the family did not know about this anti-theft feature.
8. The teenage brother did not do anything illegal since it isn't a crime to lock car doors with a teenager or adult inside.
9. On normal vehicles, a teenager can unlock a car door, dogs cannot. That's why locking dogs in vehicle on warm to hot sunny days is illegal.

I think you're referring to the Code of Hamurabbi, a Babylonian king. Not Greek.

Sigh. I get so tired of reading this. What is backwards are the constant generalizations I hear/read about my state from people who have never been here or have very limited exposure to this huge, wonderful state I call home. If you said this about a group of people (which you are indirectly), guess what YOU would be called?

What exactly are you suggesting? Are you saying that this poor girl's death isn't negligence on the part of BMW? If you are, I'm in total disagreement with both your and Trapper's premise. However, I'm giving Trapper a pass, because I suspect he is a you know what. The girl had no way to get out. Period, end of story. The car's interior probably reached 140 degrees. That is typical for a closed up car in TX in September. It can reach those temperatures in only 45 minutes to 1 hour.

But she did. Through the fold down rear seat and emergency release inside the trunk.

But did she know that? Is it reasonable to expect a young person to figure that out?

I'm tired of those who make excuses for this car company.

Designing a car with no means for a passenger to exit the vehicle when it is locked from the inside is plain and simple manufacturing a dangerous and defective product.

I hope it costs them a lot of money.

You may be correct Tom. It was over 20 years ago I took the class, and things may be fuzzy.
