Not to degrade anybodies ride but unless you've driven a BMW Alpina B7, you've never driven a BMW worthy of the name. I hate riding in one and the wifes running gal has one. I hate it because sooner or later I have to get out of it. Driving it is like driving a luxury Formula 1 car. But if fun is the goal, her husband drives an AMG C63S Cabriolet. I can assure you all 560 horses are there. Both are, in my opinion, the pinnacle of the car makers art.
If you enjoy driving, 3 series BMWs are hard to beat. They are just fun, easy, and confidence inspiring.
In terms of handling and chassis performance, the Cadillac ATS matches or beats the 3 series at all trim levels. From a purely driving engagement/fun standpoint, I prefer the Cadillac. In my opinion, the BMW has a slight edge in interior quality/refinement, but simply isn't as fun drive as the Cadillac.

Sorry, the B7 is a huge luxury car. An astoundingly good huge luxury car, but not in the same league as something like an M3 in terms of driving enjoyment. So, if your perception of BMW is that of giant luxury cars, then yes, your statement is true. That being said, I think most people equate the BMW nameplate (rightly or wrongly) with handling, chassis dynamics, and driver engagement. In that case, the B7 is not the ultimate representation of the BMW name.
I had the last generation 7 Series and put about 130K miles on it and it was truly fabulous and I had ordered the new M2 as I intended to keep the 7 and have the M2 as my around town and into the mountains car. Yes, these cars are brilliant machines but others have caught up or in some cases passed BMW up.
I cancelled my M2 order, sold my 7 series and bought a Charger Hellcat which is a brilliant car with the best sound and power you can get and also with fantastic brakes and transmission....about the only place it falls down in comparison with the 7 series BMW is in the interior style which I care about but not enough to pay another $30K for when the Hellcat is such a better performer.
After I ordered the M2, I tested a Camaro SS and have to say the Camaro felt better overall. So my take is that BMW is still brilliant but now other cars are just as brilliant are more so in some cases.

Sorry, I had to laugh. I would never compare any Caddy to any BMW, and yes I've owned both...the Caddy was an expensive piece of garbage...I've had two 7 series and both were outstanding
Are we saying that this is a measure of a vehicles quality, performance, and reliability?
BMW or it nothing shout out to Audi, Mercedes, Porsche
