I noticed that BMW has a special tool called a transmission cooling hose plier. Could be you need that to get that line on.

I actually had time today to get the lines on but suddenly, I have lost reverse and every time I shift into drive, the car stalls. Absolutely beyond me. I have heard of reverse going out on many BMWs but not the stalling due to shifting to drive.

Fifteen years of working on BMW products has taught me one thing, and that is patience. Sounds like your second leak is the shift shaft seal, which is very common and requires a special tool to replace. Leave that one for the dealer, believe me. The lack of reverse is, unfortunately, most likely an internal transmission mechanical failure. Prognosis: replace with remanufactured unit. The revving is actually unrelated to the transmission; it is an engine problem. There are many things that can cause it, but if I had just replaced those cooler lines, I'd be looking to see if I accidentally knocked off an air or vacuum line.
By the way, the proper way to replace those lines is to disconnect the motor mounts and jack up the engine. Any other way is NOT authorized by BMW.
