Hi!
My fiancee and I are moving to the Nampa area in May 2011 (after I graduate from USF) and we are looking to rent a mobile home for 3-6 months and then eventually move into an apartment. We decided this was the best course of action because we are being a little adventurous and moving without jobs, but about $10,000 in savings, and we wouldn't be able to put a job on our apartment applications. (Have employment now, but live in Florida) We figure after we move into a mobile home and have worked for a while, we can make the switch before winter.

My question is: where would be the best areas to rent from? Best mobile home parks etc? We aren't too picky, but would like something pretty, low crime, etc.

I could not find a thread about this and we would welcome any advice. We are both extremely excited to move to Idaho and cannot wait until I graduate.

Very good plan. I'd suggest and offer~ (seriously)

Especially these days, wouldn't you need a job and references to rent anything? (Sorry, it's been a while since I rented.)

Lightbulb Did you find a place?

Depending on how much you're willing to put down, you shouldn't have too much trouble.
First, figure out about how much it would wind up costing you in 6 months to live in your trailer. Let's say $300/month times 6 months = $1,800.
Tell them the truth; you just graduated, WHY you've chosen Nampa (if ' for family ', that insinuates if you get in a bind, you might be able to get help!), but that you've got a nice sized nest egg. Then offer them 6 months in advance. This usually relaxes the landlord, because now they know they're fine for six months. (Keep in mind this is really five months, because they always want a security deposit, but you're not reminding the landlord of this in the beginning!)
Unfortunately, the only trailer parks I've personally noticed look run-down, but that isn't saying much, because I haven't been searching. My honest suggestion is to do a drive through, if any way possible. I saw some apartments behind a self-serve car wash. Yeah, I get it, but for the money, they seemed safe enough, and I even met a nice tenant.
What you need for six months is a REFERENCE. If you go ANYWHERE and survive, then you have the landlord on your side, who will tell future landlords that you kept up the place, that you were a great tenant, and s/he never had trouble with your rent. And by doing a six-month lease, with the option to renew, you have six months to find somewhere you'd rather live, within budget, along with finding a JOB. (Keep in mind, though, you'll probably have to go to Eagle or Boise for a job.)
Hope this helps. If you're already here, I'd love to find out what you did!

Default Ps

PS I realize you might want somewhere nicer, but hold off. As long as you're safe and can store your belongings in a storage unit, you need to hold on to as much of that money as you can. There will be unexpected bills (like changing your license), unexpected occurrences, etc., and you want as much of that money as you can for when you're finally on your feet. Again, good luck.
