We just got our house leased for two years here in Milwaukee and we need a place for June 1st in Boise. We are looking to buy a home but want to rent for 4-6 months first. We are open to any near town location but are looking in SE Boise first. If anyone knows of someone trying to rent their home we'd be interested. We want to stay within 10 minutes of downtown.

We are looking through craigslist and all the other usual suspects for online rentals, but I just wanted to post on here to see if there were any private rentals out there that we might be able to find. My wife will be coming in mid-May to go through some places and get us set up.

Be careful when looking for a rental on craigslist. It's full of scams. Run away if they want you to send a deposit and then mail you the keys.

Indeed - Thanks for the heads up. We leased out our home through craigslist here in Milwaukee. We've had tons of scam attempts. We even had someone download the pictures of our home and create a new listing out of it with the same address with 1000 less in rent. Another Nigerian Prince kinda thing.

We've got friends in Boise that will be going through any properties and my wife will be flying out to handle the transaction and inspection personally.

Good advice - Thanks!

The rental market here in Boise is incredibly active at the moment. You may need to be prepared to act quickly and pay rent for a few weeks before your arrival if necessary.

So I'm finding. The property managers have been downright rude to me. They seem to take it as an insult when I ask if shorter term leases are available or month-to-month arrangements are possible. Our house is rented as of 6/15 and we are moving out the weekend before. We have friends that we could stay with temporarily but a family of 4 and two dogs would be quite an imposition if for anything longer than a week or two. Hopefully something fitting will pop up soon.

Check out Hotpads.com. You should be able to find something on there.

Still nothing. We'll be rolling into Boise with a truck full of our crap in 1 month and still no place to live.

Seems to be a highly active rental market... uggghhhh

I agree that in Boise, Craigslist is the best place to look for ads. However, the market is so active right now, some people aren't even bothering to put ads up at all. We are getting so many calls just off signs that if we put ads on Craigslist, we get totally overwhelmed. We had one we put up last month on Craigslist, and the first day, we had over 70 calls on it.

At the moment, we have 1 vacancy out of 97 units, and the only reason it is vacant is the tenant just moved out this week and we are remodeling it before we start showing it again. We have 1 unit vacating this weekend that is already rerented, one that the owner just bought yesterday that I'm signing a lease on today, and one coming up on June 1st that is not committed yet (sorry, small 2 bedroom duplex with almost no yard so no dogs, and in the wrong part of town for you). That is out of 97 units. There is just no vacancy right now. Plus, we are raising asking price as things come up available. The one we are remodeling is also a small 2 bedroom, sorry.

Expect if you are wanting to be short term, or month to month, to pay extra for that. We have a whole group of owners we manage for who charge $100 extra per month for any leases less than 1 year. Most of the others are $25-$50 extra.
