HI, I enjoyed reading your posting about the Bench. We are moving to Boise from Alaska and I am interested in the area around Garden St because of the access to the Green Belt. My question is about the elevation and ease of biking up hill. I can walk uphill but cannot ride up hill at all. How is the hill from Green Belt to the Bench area near Garden Street. Thanks for your help.

It isn't bad. I doubt the elevation difference is even 50' from the river to Garden Street, and the incline of the pathway is pretty gentle.

The hill is not bad. If you have to walk it isn't too large of a hill. Really pretty area with old houses and super easy access to Kathryn Albertson Park, which is a primarily walking only park with tons of beautiful landscaping and wildlife. Tons of water fowl, herons and deer.

Across the street is Ann Morrison Park, which is huge multi-use park. Tons of sports, festivals a disc golf course and pretty much anything you could want out of a city park. It is also one of a handful of parks in town which allows open containers as long as it isn't glass if you ever feel like kicking back and enjoying some cold ones on your day in the park.

Good luck on your move. I love Garden Street and have a few friends living there. Garden Street North of Emerald is the nicer side. But South of Emerald is nice too, and probably a little cheaper.

Also, if cemeteries intrigue you at all, there is a larger historic one located at Emerald & Latah. The cemetery also shares grounds with the Ahavath Beth Israel synagogue, which is the oldest synagogue West of the Mississippi River. They host an event called "Deli Days" every year and I think they host a few other community event. (Gentiles are always welcome )
