Hearing over and over again - people want to change Boise - How?
In quite a few threads the people from Boise state over and over again - how they feel that they are welc ome to new people moving in - but they feel that everyone coming in is trying to change things there?
CAn you list how they are changing things -? Or is that you are assuming they are changing things; because they have new eyes and are enjoying what Boise has to offer that you may have long forgotten to see, use, or talkabout? Just trying to understand - so if you could list the changes - so we are all aware of what you don't want to happen/or is happening...
thanks

I think the people who gripe about the changes just simply cannot accept the fact that Boise is growing and maturing into a city which seems to get a lot of attention for its quality of life and locale. Most natives don't like that attention because the "secret" is out of the bag. They are probably referring to increased traffic, more people, and everything else that happens with fast growth. Growth has been good for Boise, just look at the downtown area which is one of the most attractive and vibrant of any city similar in size to Boise and even more vibrant and clean than larger cities downtown areas.
I have a circle of friends who grew up in Idaho and they actually love the fact Boise is maturing into a large city with increasing opportunities. Because of this they can remain in their own state and not have to relocate to another state with a large city.

I think all across the USA everything evolves and changes - people move, children grow up
"the secret" in all places eventually comes out and the locals should be proud to welcome more people in
I personally loved Boise when we visited - it reminded me of New England (where I am originally from) friendly people, small city, lots of beauty in the land - you make some great points
however isn't the US the "melting pot" for all ? I was just getting concerned for some of the remarks can be down right callous especially towards to the CAlifornians - and as we all know most of them migrated to CAlifornia from another city, state, or town anyway. Why would they be any different - Boise should be proud that it is on "the I want to live there state" list...

I think that most Boiseans and Idahoans could care less where somebody moved here from, meaning that they do not judge that fact you came from California, Texas, Maine, or wherever. What they do care about is that you are a good neighbor and respect yourself and others. It is just the handful of negative forumers here that make it seem otherwise. Most people in Boise would not even give this forum a second glance.
Honestly, if a larger number of people participated in this forum from Boise you would probably see a backlashing towards the negativity from some of the posters against growth and Californians. There is a handful of constant negative forumers who hang out on this website. Remember negativity gets talked about all of the time. Positive remarks and attributes rarely get brought up in a forum like this because people seem to be here to ***** and gripe and groan. Sometimes I feel like I am one of the few positive people on this forum

I don't know - if you talk to most people in the community, read the papers, blogs, etc., most aren't thrilled with the growth, ESPECIALLY with where the growth is. I just don't see a great chorus that especially loves where Boise is headed - they like Boise right now, or the Boise of 5 years ago.
Granted, it's a matter of perspective. Long time locals are probably the majority of the growthophobes, whereas newcomers are probably thrilled with what they've found, considering where they came from.
As far as newcomers changing Boise, it really depends. It's hard for a newcomer to get into a position of influence in Boise; however if you do look at most of the politico here, they are from other areas, and they are very pro-growth. I find this suspicious, personally.
For another example, the guy running for mayor of Eagle is a relative newcomer. I think his agenda is pretty out of touch with what most Eagle residents want (and the reasons they effectively ousted Nancy Merrill), especially as it relates to foothills growth.
What I do see happening in Boise is a real disconnect between citizens and politicians here. I mean...Bill f-ing Sali? And the three dopes that are the Ada County Commissioners are no ones favorites, either. It's weird - you wonder who elects these people, because there's not exactly a loud chorus of support for them.

Anchorless, this might not be the thread for this question, but who are you thinking will be our best candidate for Boise mayor this fall? I am going for our current mayor, because he has done a lot for the city, although he isn't perfect. The other person running, who is on the council, frightens me for some reason. I don't think he is a good fit at all, and will probably not make it that far with the votes.

Yeah, I certainly prefer Bieter over Tibbs, by far.
I think there are some questionable connections between Bieter and some of the city's development groups, and his legal battles with ACHD aren't exactly attractive, but I love his record of working to protect Boise and the foothills, the parks, the Greenbelt, etc.
I think he gets it more than Tibbs does, for sure.
The real area of interest for me is getting rid of those slugs at Ada County Commissioners office.
