There was a string about Californians and Idaho, one which mentioned an unpleasant spitting upon incident by an Boisean on a Californian. Has our moderator removed that string; for what censorship purpose?

I'm not sure, however, many of the complaints you are reading could be exaggerated. I have been here over a month now, driving around with my California plates while wearing a Dodger hat and have not experienced any rude behavior. In fact I've found most people here to be friendly and helpful even though I'm an ex-Californian.
Who knows, maybe I have yet to encounter these overzealous Idaho patriots.
I hope they are only a myth. Or maybe some people are just looking for trouble.

Buggers to all this California bashing, eventually everyone will live in the Banana Republic, work in a Cheesecake Factory and get a green thumb in an Olive Garden and escape the city for a country getaway in the Pottery Barn.

I just returned from five days in Boise visiting family who live there. Having lived in West LA for about ten years. being close to the water was a big draw for me, but I realize that I rarely go to the beach. I am paying three times more for a small older (built in 1967) condo here than what I would pay for something nicer in Boise. What impresses me most about Boise is that the people seem so much friendlier than they do here in West Los Angeles. And it doesn't seem as materialistic. During our stay in Boise, we found more places to eat that feature foods we like (shellfish, truffle mushrooms, avocadoes, GOOD ethnic foods, fun diners) More than we have ever found in LA. And they provide live music on the weekends which is something we haven't found in LA. (There are clubs in West LA/Hollywood, of course, for the very young set). Boise's downtown is clean and seems to be very alive. I, being an artist/designer, found contemporary art galleries, shops that sell pretty papers, fabrics for quilting, etc. As a designer who works in my home studio most of the time, I love being close to a vibrant downtown scene. I think the reason California is becoming less desirable for some of us is that many people in So Cal have their guard up because people are moving TO Southern California FROM so many OTHER countries and people find it hard to trust people they don't know.... so as a result, many have developed a hard shell of defense.

This is what we experienced moving to the Panhandle as well...the LACK of this "hardness" to the kids here. Kids in soccer, gymnastics, church youth group, music lessons, dance, everything...just less of that "guarded" attitude among the kids. As a result, our kids made friends about 5x faster here than in SoCal where we came from....and I have noticed the depth of friendships as well...not just anecdotal observation of my own kids...but watching dozens and dozens of kids at our sports events and how they interact too....it's just different here. Hard to explain to friends in yuppie areas that view their neighborhood as "warm and open" but there's no comparison....

funnny! i used to live in boise, am thinking about moving back, and have been on this forum for a while investigating lots of areas.
just wanted to say that the every western state on this forum has threads regarding the whole "hordes of californians are moving in and ruining my town" attitude, and they all seem to think they are unique in their complaints. so pretty much, lots of people in all the western US are complaining about the 'california' problem-- wonder if the californians are commplaining about everyone else, lol!

Well, Californians are moving because people are moving into their home from other states, counties, etc. Its a nearly endless cycle that will continue for a long time. Soon enough old time Idahoans will leave Boise for Twin Falls, Idaho Falls, Montana, Wyoming, etc...and people will complain about them. I've been treated poorly in Eastern Idaho when it was noticed I had "1A" plates. Its the same everywhere.

Yes, I've read a lot of threads on this forum and others that have a lot of California bashing in them. I have to say that I'm native Idahoan and I love certain things about California. It is ridiculous to me that so many people in Idaho think that the state of Idaho is so wonderful and there is nothing else like it. To me CA is packed with many beautiful diverse natural areas (Yosemite, Redwoods, Big Sur, Sierras, Joshua Tree, Lake Shasta, etc.....) plus it has some wonderful urban areas along with some beautiful agricultural areas. The state has many, many attractive things about it and that is why so many people want to be there. Yes, I UNDERSTAND it has a lot of problems now due to overcrowding, high prices and large influxes of minorities but let's be real here. CA IS and will always be a desirable place. It is aggravating to me when people from Idaho put themselves up on a pedastal talking about how "the wonderful state of Idaho" is being ruined by Calis. The only reason Calis are coming to ID is because it doesn't have the problems that overcrowdness brings. And why is that? Because until recent times, it has not been as desirable of place to live therefore the population of the state has remained relatively low.
That said, I like Idaho and want to preserve the beauty and quality of life here too but I see no reason to bash CA or Californians. It is nothing but negative and does nothing to help Idaho deal with the challenges of growth. To me, it is not where people are from that matters, but the character of the people and how they will better the community.

California Bashing
For 43 years my business and home have been in California. I live on the central coast 20 miles for the ocean, surrounded by wine vinyards.3 hours from L.A. and 3 hours from S.F.
When the housing market comes back i will sell my home and relocate to Moscow Id. If i buy a smaller home here i will have very little money left over to do what retired people do. (enjoy).
I have traveled in every corner of our great country and the people with the stonges oppions about California have never steped foot in my state. With all of the hatred usualy from undraveled people, and it will become a lot worse. Do we want to end up like Europe where each country hate there neighbour. We are Americans free to live where we want to and i people disagree tey need to shut the hell up.
I spent a total od 18 months in rice patties as an Army Ranger, i dare anyone to tell me were i can or cant live. Grow up Americans turn your hate into understanding if you can't and are feed up ,then you move Russa is that way.
