By the sounds of things...somebody gave Governor Otter the California playbook and he's running it play by play. He wants to raise college tuition 10% (Governator did this in 2003/2004/2006). He wants to raise gas taxes to "pay for road management." Governator tried that, but it didn't pass. Otter wants to raise the car license fee even more. Arnie now wants to triple the cali car fee (the issue that cost Gray Davis his job). All we need to wait for is for Gov. Otter to whisper "sales tax" increase. California is in deep trouble and experts now believe the state will run out of money by Feb or March of 2009. I have not heard anything doomsday like that for Idaho.
But..again....isn't it time for Californians to grow up and repeal Prop 13?

The Treasure Valley is growing very rapidly. I hope someone thinks about things like mass transit, and planning shopping and infrastructure. On the west side by Eagle Rd it is a mix of farms and new housing developments. Surprising.

I've been a life long Californian(26 out of 30 years) and I have steadily grown weary of the way California is run. This state is going to hell in a hand basket on a rocket ship and there is no reason for me to stick around for the bloody end. The job market is going to hell...the financial situation is going to hell...the society in general is going to hell. Why should I stick around? I barely get first amendment rights here, much less second amendment.
I grew up in a small rural town near Redding, but I was born and lived in San Diego and currently live in Sacramento...this time next year I will be an Idahoan. As far Idaho politics, they'd be damn fools to copy California in anything. We already have a gas tax for road maintenance and we have some of the worst roads in the country. We already have high rates of taxes in all areas, yet we are in the red FORTY million dollars more EACH DAY!
California has regulated, spent, and taxed itself into oblivion. You all should fight to tooth and nail to keep Idaho the way it is. Any long term "progressive" actions will just nudge you down the same road that New Jersey, California, New York, Florida, Michigan, and a dozen other states have taken. It's a road that will end in misery and destitution. Never trust anyone who says they are working for the good of society.
That's the end of my rant. I can't wait until we move... Idaho or bust in 2009!

Gov Kempthorne was a much better gov than Otter has been. Hopefully in the next election people vote for the right person and not just for the Republican candidate just because he happens to be Republican.
Otter is better off as a mayor of Weiser or Parma or other small Idaho towns, but not the Governor. He is not very business savvy.

Easy to ignore the real problem, because it requires planning and insight to deal with, and that is just too darn many people.

My husband was born in Boise and lived there for almost 20 years. He moved to California and has lived here ever since we got married. Now we are looking to go back to his homestate to retire. I can understand everyone's dismay regarding people from California. But I honestly think alot of people wanting out are the sort of people that will be respectful of where they are going. I hope so anyway because then they are no better than the people that overran California......

If you want a great place to live, come to Boise and vacation in Montana.
