Smile Pet Ordinance?

Good evening everyone. I was wondering if there is a pet ordinance in Boise. What I mean, is how many can one have in the city without having to have special permission? We plan on moving up here soon and needed to know this important info. If this question or topic has been asked before, please forgive me. Have a wonderful weekend!

May want to double check, but I believe that in the Boise city limits you can only have 4 dogs unless you are a breeder.

Only cute pets with special talents are allowed within city limits. If you move to Nampa you can own a crocodile for all I care.

Before I bought my home in Boise, I must have read through close to 200 CC&R's (Covenants, Codes and Restrictions) trying to find out what each individual subdivision's rules were that superceded Boise's regulation of 4 pets mentioned in the post above.

Some of the subdivisions referred to Boise's regulations and then changed later becoming much more restrictive. Most of them were limited to two pets, not four, which is great if you have a lot of bad pet owners who let their dogs run free, bark at all hours and never clean up their waste.

I tried my best to buy a home where I could have all 3 of my dogs 'legally' without having to worry about getting fined or having to move or get rid of any of them. After I moved in, I found out my sub was one of the ones that originally was worded to meet Boise regulations, but then amended their CC&R's to 2 pets only.

I never had a problem and unfortunately lost 2 of my dogs while living in my home in Boise to old age issues. I was also told by several Realtors not to worry about the issue of too many pets, but I still feel that it's best to be fully informed before purchasing or renting and access to CC&R's can be gained through your Realtor if and when you find a home or area that you are interested in living. Rural acreage will have it's own set of rules different than the normal housing subs.

Best of luck to you and your family !

Thumbs up You're welcome Vince!

My dogs and I loved Boise with the close foothills and so many nice parks close by. I lived in NW Boise bordering Eagle for over 5 yrs and it has some of the best places for walking dogs and enjoying the river in all of Ada county (imho ).
