I totally understand. But I think your impression of California is wrong. Boise is an awesome place and its good to look after your kids. But there are sexual predators everywhere.

There are people who "hate" the Californians moving to Idaho! I'm sure some would say just about anything to scare off one Californian. I have a friend who got arrested for peeing in a school field at night. He is considered an offender that exposed himself at a public school. I doubt if the laws are that strict in other places?

Unfortunately, where we NEVER used to have crime, now within the last year or so it has skyrocketed! Thanks to the illegal aliens and the out-of-staters , who could care a less about our beautiful state, we are becoming another piece of crap big crime city. Now if our Police would not worry so much about who's wearing seat belts and more on cracking down on the drugs and illegal aliens (gangs), maybe we could get a little control on this. If you are planning on coming in with a bad attitude, then STAY OUT!!

I think there seems to be more sexual crimes here in Boise, because the police and powers to be, come down hard on these people. Instead of a slap on the wrist they get sentenced and labeled a preditor, which is how it should be. There are pervs everywhere, 44 yrs. ago my sister was sexually molested when she was 6, by a neighbor, and this was in a town of about 800. Where you knew EVERYONE. The police really didn't do much so my dad went with his shotgun to the guys house and told him if he ever heard of him touching or harming another child again HE would be the police, the judge and the jury and he would see to it that he would "meet his maker". The guy never did it again. Granted this guy wasn't playing with a full deck but that is no excuse to hurt a child. Also, 99.99999% of the sexual crimes against children are done by a family member. Plus, children are better informed that they SHOULD tell when someone has been inappropriate with them. Boise is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. Yes, Nampa and Caldwell do seem to have higher crime rates, but I think that is because of the present "company". Too many illegals. We live in west Boise near Meridian, we have a Boise address but my children attend schools in the Meridian school district. Wonderful schools. We have lived here 24 years and I feel just as safe now, as when we first moved here.

Default idaho sex offenders

I guess it depends on what you call a sex offender. In Emmett the local judge sentenced a high school senior to 1 year in prison for getting his girlfriend pregnant a few months before graduation. They prosecuted in under the fornication law that makes sex illegal outside of marriage. They were planning on getting married after graduation but as he was in prison that didn't happen. Also this young man was put on the sex offender list and cannot be around any children including his own. But the same judge gave the local mailman probation after it was proved he was molesting little boys on his route. I checked out a site several years ago and the suicide rate for children in Idaho was one of the highest in the country at that time. There was/is a reason for that. I also have personal doubts that all these suicides are in fact suicides. Many things can happen to a child that are out of the parents control. In the 50-60's boys were taken from the Boise YMCA and molested. Many of the pedophiles at that time were reputed to be some of Idahos wealthiest citizens. A book called "The Boys of Boise" was written (to try to smooth things over I think) about it. In the late 90's a man was arrested in California for murdering his girlfriend. As part of his defense he testified his foster parents in Idaho where he had been raised had kidnapped, molested, and murdered children throughout his entire childhood and that he had been forced to part take in these activities. His foster father was in prison in a third state for child molesting at the time of this trial. All though evidence was never found to prove what he said, based on my personal experiances in the same town and on things I heard the locals say about it, I believe him. As a result of my observations and experiances, and converstaions with others, I came to the conclusion that at least in the small town I lived in (where these things supossedly happened) there is a much higher then normal percentage of pedophiles. You might even say that there it is considered normal. At least that was the attitude many of the men I worked with had.

I went through less than half of the zip codes most seem to fall in Boise. I wrote down the numbers as they were listed but they are many many zip codes I did not bother to click on. Feel free to cleck it out for yourself.

Eagle 16

Meridian 68

Kuna 22

Star 5

Boise 59 +27 +96 +96 again +65 +1 +60 +5 +22

Again almost every night we listen to the news and her gangs gangs gangs shootings knife fights in Boise Nampa ,the worst so far, and Caldwell. I am not against Nampa . We just hear more about it on the news and not all good.

Also there has been a HUGE School bond passed in Boise and then another bond for?? I forget what but it was fairly large. So check out property taxes as these new bonde will affect them. You can not go on say last years taxes but find out what the New ones will be.

Today on the news they were talking about a planned community, Avondale or?? I was sort of asleep LOL, and how if allowed to go through it might make Boise another Phoenix,AZ in another 10 or 15 years. So I guess it depends on what you are really looking for.

I am NOT bashing Boise or Nampa in any way just stating what we see. Of course 20 years ago I lived in California and I left it because I did not want to live in a place like that anymore. Boise is headed in the same direction so if you are trying to escape California you better move further out.

Chris
I also have to agree with this. It is a number thing. Yes Idaho may have a smaller number but then to there are fewer people with less then two million in the whole state so fewer also make a higher percentage of. I know my son talks about all the crime and drugs in the Boise area. From meth and harder drugs to plan old wacky tobacco. He also has told me about people he knows doing stuff to afford there habits.
I know calif is bad that’s why in 92 I moved to Idaho. I also found Idaho not to be what I believed it was or what they wanted me to believe. They said no gangs, yet I saw the signs being from calif. Also saw the drug problem. I know being the father of a daughter I would worry about it and would also make my move call with it as part of the over all. I also have seen that Idaho was not all that safe of a place for my son or a lot of the younger people in there late teens. I have left Idaho after ten years there for some of this and more never planning to return. Idaho is not what it’s all cracked up to be. It is a great out doors people’s area but the rest leaves a lot to be desired. There are areas in the Boise, Nampa, and Caldwell area I would not personal go at night if I could help it. I was never at easy with the wife going out at night some places to shop. I know that. I also found the cost of livening was not that good. Only things we found cheaper were wages ,housing , day care, sales taxes ( not by much),car registration, smog checks(Idaho every year so the total was more then calif cost for one every two years) and now add gas a bit cheaper also.. There is more to moving to some place then just schools and what seams like low housing, with a low unemployment rate. I for one would not suggest the Boise area at all but others may. In the end it is what you want for your family and Idaho’s cost was too great for my family .My family was destroyed by Idaho and by the lack of Idaho. That is too great of a cost to live any were.

Default Not the worst IMHO

The main reason I decided not to move to Des Moines IA (employer gave me 3 choices, Des Moines, Boise, or Pocatello) is they have so many sex offenders there. And they all seemed to be violent too. Every house I looked at had over 30 within 3 miles. I live in S Phoenix and can't find an area with more than 4 in 3 miles. To be fair Iowa lists all sex offenders and Arizona does not but as I said I didn't find one streaker on Iowa's list. They were all rapists, killers, and child molestors.

Pocatello has a higher rate of rape than Boise (do to ISU I'm sure).

Both Boise and Pocatello's sex offenders seem to be kids having sex with kids so my only fear is when my son turns 16 he'll get arrested for having sex. The only things the cops ever did here when they caught us was to check I.D.'s to make sure we were both under 18. (Long time ago)

One of the bigger molestation cases happen a few yrs ago and involved an ex Bishop with the LDS church. Steve Lott was arrested and tried for molesting two girls I think. He had been doing that for yrs and many ppl knew of it but would do nothing about it. My husband grew up with him and we all we in the same ward when Mr. Lott was Bishop. I know in the Shelley Firth area of the state they have several offenders living there. But most of the dads threaten them every chance they get.

Just last school yr there was a guy driving around the schools in Star, I think, in a white pickup trying to pick up kids. Here in Castleford we had a guy stalking the kids on their way home and we only have about 600 ppl in our town. The best thing about this lil town is that a couple of the dads happen to walk up to this guy with their shotguns and threatened him with death if he didn't leave.

When looking at the numbers they will seem high to the amount of ppl in the city they are registered in. Idaho is very anal when it comes to petty offences, such as peeing in a field, geez all of the farmers do that where else are they supposed to go??? Most of the judges here are LDS and they aren't very impartial and they will use thier belief to judge you. You can still put your spouse in jail for adultry here.

So I am with Huntman58, I am out of here too. It wasn't a good move for me and my children either. I came here thinking that it would be a great place to raise my kids and all they have incoutered is hate from the local white kids, my kids are part Native. The relgious ppl have been no help and neither has the judicial system. There are better places than Idaho to live and it is very sad cuz this is a beautiful state. Yes there are some good ppl here too but they need to stand up for what is right and not just sit back and pretend that nothing is going on. Get active get a voice and stick up for your children vote the judges out etc.. This is the only way to stop this state from going all the way down the toilet.
