My husband & I are planning to relocate to Idaho w/in a year. (Can't WAIT to leave California and be among like minded people!!) We've been looking at homes (online) in the above referenced areas. Would like something with at least one acre, not too far from shopping, restaurants, medical facilities, etc. (30-60 minute commute ok) and would like to keep it under $400K. Would love to get some feedback from "people in the know" as to how these places rate.
Each of the cities you list feel very different and offer varying amenities. Are you seeking an acre because you want a country feel or because you have specific needs that land can offer (animals, shop, food-growing, etc.)? That would make a difference. Mountain Home is an air force town and is pretty far out in the desert. Caldwell is a farm town. The areas south of Nampa towards Kuna are my personal favorite for a rural area that isn't too far from "civilization." Star is pretty. You might consider Eagle, too, as there are some nice acre horse-type properties in that area as well. Both Eagle and Star are far from the freeway so there is more traffic to deal with than in the areas south of town. Emmett is pretty. If you are looking at acreages, you will likely want to see what is available in your price range in all of these areas--you'll quickly see once you get here the pros and cons of each of these areas.
Thanks for the info. We would like an acre just to have some space for us and our dogs. Been living with close neighbors for too long, need some breathing space.
Was in the Boise area in September and checked out Eagle...thought it was a beautiful area but seemed expensive. Liked Meridian as well and saw some nice 1 acre homes in Nampa. Am heading back in April to look at specific towns/areas to narrow down the search.
Thanks again for the information; we really appreciate it.
Absolutely check out Southern Kuna and roll West...there are some great pockets of acreage home(sites) out there. Good luck--great HD riding. Stop by the HD Shop and say hello to Jamie (GM), great guy and he will make sure you get to know the local community.
Thanks! Looking at those areas on the map right now. Appreciate the HD info as well. We both ride and can't wait to get in the saddle and check out the beautiful scenery Idaho offers as well as get to know some other folks who like to ride.

It's been about 11 years and I have to wonder if this couple found what they were looking for or where they finally ended up. Are they happy with their purchase?
