Fall Colors in Boise?
My wife and I disagree on Boise. She says it is built on a desert and is dry with little trees, except pines. I say while it isn't New England or up state New York, there are Fall colors in Boise and plenty of trees. The weird thing is both of us have visited Boise, so I don't know why seem to see things differently. Can anyone tell us what Boise is really like? Are there ANY Fall colors in Boise or nearby?
Thanks!
Howard

sorry, but your wife is wrong about the trees. boise is the "city of trees." its name comes for the french word "les bois" which means the woods.
here is a shot from table rock http://pics3.city-data.com/cpicc/cfiles24334.jpg
and this is the north end of boise http://www.uidaho.edu/ecohydraulics/...r011107-01.jpg and this is looking from the "bench" towards the boise front http://www.keynetics.com/img/boise_skyline.jpg.
you wife is correct in remembering that the boise area is high desert, however, man has trasformed the valley long ago into a fairly green area, especially boise and the west end of the treasure valley.

I doubt there is any better place in the nation to spend a fall.
Our falls are long, (mostly) sunny, cool but also warm (if that makes sense), and yeah, our leaves turn beautiful colors. It's certainly not New England (or even the Midwest), but it has elements of that with a Rocky Mountain fall.

The color the last couple of weeks has been Beeeeauutiful
We have maples, oaks, sumac, aspen, sycamores, ash trees and more. It's a rainbow of colors along side a lot of really pretty evergreens.

Thanks for Fall Color Info
Thanks all for the info. I had heard the city was planting Maple trees on the North end. Can't wait to get out there. Now...if I can just find a job!

Boise or Coeur D'Alene
I was thinking about Idaho for a long time. I'm in Chicago and need a slower pace of life. I only live in Chicago to be near my aging parents; otherwise, I would have left years ago. I don't want to live near Mormons, neo Nazis, latin gangs, pretty much any kind of thug or cult activity. How is either one of these towns?

There are some mormons in Boise, none in CDA, Some Neo Nazi's in CDA, but not too many, they mostly left after the compound got shut down. The Latin Thugs live in Canyon County not Boise, There aren't many minorities in CDA at all. Both places are pretty good.

The largest amount of Mormons/LDS live in the West Boise area, into Meridian and further west into Canyon County. Most of Boise including downtown does not have a large Mormon population. The Catholic Church is supposed to be the largest denomination in boise city limits. Boise is full of too many wine bars, martini bars, clubs, and coffee shops
While there are many Mormons in the Treasure Valley, we are not anything like Utah or the Salt Lake area, thank goodness!
Oh well, back to fall. Boise is just barely starting to see the peak of fall colors coming on. The next few weeks are going to be awesome.

I just love the falls here, though it hasn't been our warmest fall it still has been just as beautiful. How about that forecast for the week? Mid to upper 60's almost all week, 100% sunshine! Just the way we like it! My tomatoes are taking advantage of another week of sun, c'monnnnn tomatoes, squeeze out a couple more for me!
