I see there is a lot of ongoing development going on in the foothills and was wondering if the bike trails near the reserve and camels back and all up in that area are protected from development. Is it all BLM or privately owned? Maybe mixed?

The Ridge to Rivers trails are generally on public land, or on negotiated easements on private land. The foothills in general are a mix of public and private land and there is ongoing development pressure. The city of Boise has a property tax funded effort to buy key parcels of land in the foothills to preserve access and habitat. Recently, the city has purchased at Harrison Hollow and Hammer Flat to prevent development.

In short, you should expect more development in the foothills, particularly along corridors like Bogus Basin Road. But you should also expect the existing trail system to be preserved.

The area behind Camels Back is protected. I wouldn't worry about bike trails going away because the city government, most citizens and developers want the natural areas in the foothills to remain as open space for hiking and cycling. Citizens here have even voted to raise property taxes to fund the city purchasing open space in the foothills to be protected from development. Boise is all about biking so, yeah, no worries.
There is a lot of space in the hills to build in and not disturb the trails.

The existing trail system is good to go. But there will be more development in the foothills where undeveloped land exists, unfortunately.

Just wait til we have a fire in the foothills, though.... like in '98.
