Default Where to live in Boise

So, we will be moving to Boise in a matter of weeks and we have no idea where to live. The good news is that we have a relocation allowance that includes two weeks hotel, so we will be able to check out the area little bit. My question is, where should we look for an apartment? Here is little background:

Young couple (late 20s)

Into the social scene but no longer into the rowdy college scene

One of us will be working at The Boise Towne Square

I haven't lined up a job yet but figure I will work downtown

Decent Income but not rich

Active

Not yet ready for suburbia

I would appreciate any advice anyone has.

Thanks

I assume you're looking to buy?

Check out the Bench area (from Vista to Curtis, I84 to Emerald), or check out the Parkcenter area (Broadway to Amity, the Boise river to Federal Way).

I guess I should of clarified if we were renting/buying. We will probably rent for at least the first six months or year so we can get a feel for the town and the real estate market. Thanks for your help.

I'm sure some of the Real Estate agents on this board will chime in, but now is a good time to buy! They're expecting prices to start increasing by spring.

I would look for something in the north end or downtown... its within walking distance to the foothills.. the greenbelt.. and everything downtown offers as far as weekend markets and nightlife...

The Northend is a pain to get to the Mall, though, if you're going to have to commute there. It's by far the best rental experience in Boise, though (and living experience, if you can afford it).

Thanks for all the replies. To add a little more info, we will be looking for a 2bd apartment in the $700-$1,000 range.

My votes always trend toward the NE part of the north end (aka East End) or as Anchorless mentioned, the Bench (but this area needs to be narrowed down and can be spotty).

Also keep in mind the area of West Downtown, terrible tag, I know. But if you can find something in that neighborhood south of State, north of Main St, between 16th and 27th...you're set. It's by far the easiest access to both the Connector and downtown. The connector is a straight shot to the Towne Square and Main is a lightly traveled straight shot into downtown.

It has a similar stock of homes as the North End, a grid layout, neighborhood park, but only cheaper and in a better location for the longer view.

If and only if I was moving back to Boise I'd buy here...or rent.

My two cents.

Not really, you just have to jump on the connector its like five minutes. Plus your going against the flow of traffic both ways.
