My husband and I will be moving to Boise March 1st. I am transferring from Mississippi with a state agency. He is a master plumber who has done mostly commercial plumbing and mechanical but is also experienced in residential. Does anyone know of someone there that is hiring? He has applied online for lots of jobs ( all types, not just plumbing) but nothing has panned out yet. Any suggestions?

I would be willing to bet that there is plenty of work for your husband.. I just think that they are hesitant to contact him because he doesn't live here yet... I could be wrong.. lots of times with different types of work they're looking for someone that's here and available asap... so I would suggest moving with your transfer and having him make the rounds and contacts once you're here...

Nissybee, I live in Boise and will be relocating to Mississippi soon. I would love to help you with a lead on a job, but I don't know of any...I would agree with the above post that once you are actually here, hiring will come easier. We moved here from the Southeast and have been here 4 years. We have really enjoyed living here and would like to stay, but my husband's job is moving us. There's low crime here and friendly people. It felt a little bit "wild" to me at first, coming from a place where it seems there
are rules for everything and signs warning you of anything dangerous. You definitely have more freedom here in a good way. It really amazed me that a favorite thing for a lot of people to do is float down the Boise River through the middle of town on an innertube. This is the capital city! Can you imagine that in any other big city you know of? I couldn't. But, we've tried it and it's fun. : )Do you have any advice for us on Mississippi? We will be moving to the Vicksburg/Jackson area. Thanks. |

Thanks for the replies. I haven't logged on in a while due to the busy schedule of packing up! I had the same feeling that finding a job for hubbie would be easier once he is in town to meet people. I certainly hope this is the case. We are staying positive though and can't wait to arrive. We leave this Sunday and will drive for probably 4 days in a Penske truck with a dog and 2 cats in the cab.
![]() Ideehomom: How weird that you are coming this way?! My only advice is to be VERY cautious about where to live. There are some really bad areas in places you would not necessarily expect it. I don't want to be negative about the area but I'm sure that you've already heard how dangerous the Jackson area can be. People are nice overall but you just have to be cautious. Do you know where you are living yet? I can help you with the areas to avoid if not. When are you moving? |
