Reputation of Idaho
Just so everyone knows that has wondered about the attitudes in idaho related to race. Everyone is quick to jump on the Aryan nation and what not.. Obama just swept Idaho by 76 percent against hillary.. which is one of the highest winning margins for obama in all of the states combined..
Just food for thought... so that when others want you to THINK idaho is something when it isn't necessarily the case

80% percent now. Do you think this was because he came to Idaho or because there is a deep seated resentment of anyone with a last name of Clinton in Idaho? Did you go?

this is not to say that i think the state is brimming with racists, but to me, the election results don't speak much about racism in idaho. obama won a democratic vote. historically as a group, white supremacists have not been big democractic voters.

my point was not to argue that one party was more or less racist than another, only to say that organized white supremisist groups, like the OP was referring to, have not historically been a part of the democratic vote.

Take this one step further... Idaho is often thought of like the South as far as its attitude towards blacks. Yet Obama won the South too. But he didn't win the Northeast or California? So what can we conclude about those areas?

People need to remember that Idaho did not want the Arayan Nations headquarters, at all. Now the Arayan Headquarters has been burned to the ground, and leaders have been run out of the state by the state officials and citizens of Idaho who did not want them in our accepting state. When records were revealed most of the followers of the Arayan Nations are from the East, Midwest and West Coast; there were hardly any followers of the Arayans who lived in Idaho. So, to somehow assume all of Idaho is racist is completely stupid on the persons part who assumes that. Niners Fan, I was not aware that Idaho had an attitude towards African Americans, I have never heard any deragatory remarks towards the Black race since living in Boise, never.
I thought that was more of an overall American attitude. I have said it before and I will state again that you can find more racist people in big cities, after all large cities is where racial segregation takes place. Everybody thinks is it so diverse and progressive that certain cities have China Towns, but in fact those large cities have China Towns because the Chinese were treated so badly by those (gasp) open minded progressive big city folk!
They had to form their own neighborhoods, they are not there for novelty, but for a reason...large cities are historically racist. Certain races, groups stuck together and have created segregated neighborhoods in cities all over this nation.
So, when people think Idaho is backwards and racist because of a group that citizens of Idaho ran out of the state, then those people who assume this of Idaho need to be educated and open their minds.

Syringaloid - you and I are in agreement. I was just playing off the ridiculous perception that people have of Idaho.

you may be right, but the point is that those people are not welcome in idaho anymore and are not a part of our culture here like many people want to think.. in fact there are racists everywhere and Idaho is no worse or better than any place else.. but we have been coined as being one of the worst and it is sooooooo not the case.. my good friend is african american AND gay... and he loves boise... I've lived in much larger cities in america and what I've noticed is that they claim to be more diverse and accepting.. but you find this interesting fact.... whites live in their neighbourhoods and coloured people live in "other" places in the city... you won't find that in idaho or boise.. its pretty evenly spread out considering the amount of diversity we do have..

interesting discussion! i love idaho and am not idaho bashing here...just wanted to chime in that i didn't think obama's success can definitevely be attributed to a lack of white supremacy in idaho, or anywhere for that matter.
i think it's important to differentiate between the organized, active white supremacy movement and general racism. i don't know whether boise has more or less white supremacists than other states (guessing more) but for what it's worth, idaho is the only place i have encountered people outwardly affiliated with the white supremacy movement, and people with related tatoos.

You also have to remember the aryans weren't in Boise. They were 500 miles away up north closer to Spokane. North and South Idaho are for all intents and purposes seperate states that happen to share a gov't. The aryans are now in Indiana, I think.
